Just a few hours after Arizona State learned that freshman center Jayden Quaintance would be entering the transfer portal despite recovering from a torn ACL, the Sun Devils got word that their other big man is also leaving the program.

Shawn Phillips Jr. is transferring out of Arizona State after two seasons in Tempe. The Ohio native had originally committed to LSU, but transferred after one season. This past year, he averaged 5.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game on 57.3% shooting.
Phillips battled inconsistent play all season, and frequently got into foul trouble, averaging three fouls a game. He began to come into his own on the offensive end following the in-season dismissal of leading scorer BJ Freeman, but Phillips was still relegated to a role player's role on a team struggling to win games down the stretch.
This most recent departure marks the fifth Sun Devil to enter the transfer portal, on top of six other departing players, bringing the current roster down to a staggeringly low number. Embattled head coach Bobby Hurley has a lot of work to do this offseason.
