Arizona State could not weather the storm last week against Utah and got blown out. This week, the Sun Devils face Texas Tech, a tougher opponent compared to last week. Here are five key points that they have to excel in to win.

1. Will Sam Leavitt play?

Redshirt sophomore Sam Leavitt's absence affected how the offense operated, starting with the game plan, as the team anticipated him playing as he practiced with the offense last week. This week, he practiced and could play. If he plays, Arizona State’s chances rise significantly.

2. Will the run defense improve from last week?

Arizona State got run over last week, allowing 6.6 yards a carry and 276 yards to the No. 8 rushing offense in the country. This is uncharacteristic of the Sun Devils teams Kenny Dillingham has coached in the past 1.5 seasons. This week, they get a slightly easier draw in the No. 14 rushing offense in the country with Texas Tech.

3. Will the run game be explosive?

The run game was shut down by Utah last week. This week, Arizona State faces the No. 1 rush defense in Texas Tech. The rushing attack will be without junior Kyson Brown, and junior Kanye Udoh is probable on the injury report. Expect to see a little bit of freshman Demarius “Man Man” Robinson to pair with redshirt junior Raleek Brown.

4. Will the offensive line be effective without Ben Coleman?

Graduate center Ben Coleman sustained an injury last week that sidelines him for the end of the year. Redshirt freshman Wade Helton and redshirt sophomore Makua Pule are candidates to replace Coleman.

5. Will the Sun Devils red zone offense produce touchdowns?

The red zone offense has been lacking this season, and last Saturday, that continued to be the case as it went one for two and another drive stopped at the 21. The Sun Devils have to improve the No. 91-ranked red zone offense.
