There are six Arizona State Sun Devils still listed in the transfer portal. What are their plans?

The football program at Arizona State took a massive hit after the end of the 2021 season when 20 Sun Devils entered the transfer portal. The massive exodus has left a huge number of questions regarding the future of the program as a whole, and particularly, what the 2022 season might look like.

247Sports.com still lists six Arizona State players in the transfer portal that have not yet committed to a new school:

  • LB Rodney Groce, Jr.
  • IOL Sione Veikoso
  • QB Nathan Manning
  • WR Cade Cadam
  • S Cam Phillips
  • S Conner Lewis

Here is a look at a few of the biggest names still undecided

Rodney Groce Jr transferred to Arizona State after two seasons at Mississippi State in December of 2021. With the Soelle brothers and Merlin Robertson already at the position, it seems that Groce Jr might have been concerned about the amount of playing time he would receive. It is unlikely he will be immediately eligible at his next school as he used his one-time transfer moving to Tempe.

Safety Cam Phillips had a large role on the Sun Devils squad of 2019, but has been largely absent since.  He entered the portal in the middle of the 2021 season. Arizona State should be looking good at the position with Incoming transfers at the position such as Khoury Bethley and Chris Edmonds.

Perhaps most detrimentally to the Sun Devils, six wide receivers entered the portal between November and June. WR Geordon Porter was the first of the bunch to leave, but he was just the beginning. Out of those six, only Cade Cadam has not committed to another school. Cadam was a walk-on at Arizona State and has four years of eligibility remaining.

With the May 1 deadline for immediate eligibility long gone, it is unclear what the plans are for the ASU players still in the portal.
