Unlike the small recruiting class of 2022, Arizona State football has a good set of incoming transfers that should immediately impact the team.

Although there are only nine players in Arizona State’s current recruiting class coming from either high school or the junior college level, they have attracted 14 transfers from throughout the ranks of college football.

Included in the bunch are nine Power Five transfers that will hopefully help fill in the gaps from the large exodus of ASU players lost to the transfer portal after the end of the 2021 season.

Two positions were hit particularly hard by the transfer portal this year, wide receiver and quarterback, and there are new faces in this transfer class that will be looked upon to provide answers at two of the most important positions in football.

Luckily, Herm Edwards and staff did not completely ignore other areas of the team. There are four incoming transfers along the offensive line, including both tackles and an interior player, as well as three transfers meant to shore up the Sun Devil secondary.

Offensive Line

  • OT Joey Ramos | 6-foot-5, 305 pounds (from Iowa State)
  • OT Emmit Bohle | 6-foot-7, 300 pounds (from Northern State)
  • IOL Des Holmes | 6-foot-5, 322 pounds (from Penn State)
  • OT Chris Martinez | 6-foot-4, 280 pounds (from San Diego State)

Secondary

  • CB Ro Torrence | 6-foot-3, 195 pounds (from Auburn)
  • S Khoury Bethley | 5-foot-10, 195 pounds (from Hawaii)
  • S Chris Edmonds | 6-foot-2, 215 pounds (from Samford)

The front seven also received some help in the form of a transfer defensive lineman and a linebacker.

Front Seven

  • DL Nesta Jade Silvera | 6-foot-2, 308 pounds (from Miami)
  • LB Rodney Groce Jr. | 6-foot-1, 240 pounds (from Mississippi State)

Arizona State football also added a smattering of help at offensive skill positions.

  • QB Emory Jones | 6-foot-2, 195 pounds (from Florida)
  • QB Paul Tyson | 6-foot-5, 228 pounds (from Alabama)
  • WR Camron Johnson | 6 foot, 198 pounds (from Vanderbilt)
  • RB Xazavian Valladay | 6-foot-1, 175 pounds (from Wyoming)
  • TE Messiah Swinson | 6-foot-8, 232 pounds (from Missouri)

Now, let’s take a quick look at the three transfers from this group most likely to immediately impact the 2022 edition of  Arizona State football.
