Arizona State vs USC Prediction Tonight

Coming off a narrow loss to Stanford their last time out, the Sun Devils have struggled to win games but have fared well against the spread (ATS), covering in six of their last eight contests. They take on a stout USC team that, while 16-2 overall, have failed to cover in their last five home games. Bettors may be tempted to ride with the Sun Devils, but the under presents the best value in this matchup.

As I wrote here, Arizona State has been an under bettor’s dream this season. Going under in 12 of their 16 games, the Sun Devils profile as exactly the kind of team we target when betting on a low score.

The Sun Devils struggle to score. Bart Torvik has them ranked 278th in 2-point shooting and 338th in 3-point shooting. But they do have a good defense, ranking 64th in adjusted defensive efficiency behind the 34th-best 2-point shooting defense. With the 82nd-best offensive turnover rate and 146th-fastest adjusted tempo, they don’t turn the ball over much and are content to play a slower game.

This matches up nicely for an under against a Trojan team that has been superb defensively. With the #2 ranked 2-point shooting defense in the country, USC relies on their long, rangy defenders to force opponents into tough shots. With the 37th-best offensive turnover rate and186th-fastest tempo, they are also content to hold the ball in a slow game, lovely news for us under bettors.

With stingy defenses, limited turnovers and a slow pace of play, we’re also hoping to avoid free throws for freebie points. Thankfully, the Sun Devils are 340th nationally in free throw rate while the Trojans are 168th.

Points will be at a premium in this one. We check every box I look for and I love the under 135 today as the Sun Devils continue their season-long trend of being an under bettor’s dream.
