2. Arizona State Sun Devils (15-6, 6-3 Pac-12) LW: 3

Thursday was huge for Arizona State. Not only did the Sun Devils improve to 15-6 overall, Bobby Hurley got his first win over arch-rival Arizona.

But it wasn’t an easy win.

With a few minutes left, the lead slipped away. A Justin Coleman 3-pointer knotted the game at 83 apiece with 24 seconds remaining.

Then came overtime. In the extra frame, the Sun Devils outscored the Wildcats 12-5, surging to a 95-88 win.

From an offensive standpoint, Arizona State was brilliant.

The Sun Devils shot 30-of-54 (55.6 percent) from the field and shot almost 50 percent from deep. Additionally, 18 of those field goals were assisted, displaying the crisp ball movement throughout the game.

For as good as the Sun Devils were from beyond the arc, they also struggled to defend the three. Arizona shot 14-of-28 from deep, fueled by Ryan Luther’s 5-of-8 clip.

That said, the defense stepped up when it was needed most: overtime. The Wildcats shot 0-of-4 from the field in the extra five minutes.

In the win, all five starters reached double figures, but Remy Martin shined the brightest. The sophomore cashed in with 31 points, a career-high.

This week is about as important as it gets. The Sun Devils play host to Washington State — a potential trap game — and Washington, the Pac-12’s first-place team.

These are the Sun Devils’ only games against the Cougars and Huskies this season, so it is imperative that ASU upsets UW if it wants a chance at the Pac-12 regular-season crown.
