12. California Golden Bears (2-4) Last Week: 12

The Cal Golden Bears only played one game since last week’s rankings. It was a 84-71 loss on the road to Saint Mary’s.

For the Golden Bears, this season has been all about developing young talent, and their 2-4 record shows that.

However, Justice Sueing has done a good job leading this young team. While he is second on the team in points per game (12.7), trailing only Paris Austin, he leads in rebounds per game with 6.2.

In the loss to Saint Mary’s, Sueing led the team with 15 points while collecting three of the team’s four steals. Freshman Matt Bradley also had a good showing against the Gaels with 15 points, four rebounds, and two blocks.

Cal will be back in action twice this upcoming week with the first matchup coming on Wednesday night against San Francisco and the second on Saturday night against San Diego State.

Head coach Wyking Jones and the Golden Bears still have six more games left in their non-conference slate to get things tuned up before they start off Pac-12 play at USC on January 3.

Those six games will give this young lineup more much-needed experience, and even though Cal probably won’t be knocking on the door for a postseason tournament bid, they could definitely be a “trap game” for a few teams in a Pac-12 that aren’t very good this season.
