ASU Soccer: Sun Devils draw against No. 18 Colorado in defensive battle

ASU Soccer was able to come back in the second half and get a equalizer to draw against No.18 Colorado in a game that was a defensive battle.
Arizona State drew against the No. 18 Colorado in what was a defensive battle with both sides creating many opportunities.
Colorado came out pressing high up the pitch forcing the Sun Devils to pass the ball quickly in their own half. It lead to Colorado forcing Sun Devils to turn the ball over early and creating chances for the Buffaloes.
The Sun Devils were able to create chances of their own through various passes but was only able to put up two shots in the first 11 minutes.
The Buffaloes, in the 11th minute, scored a goal from senior forward Jorian Baucom in which was her eighth of the season.
ASU looked to counter that and went more attacking pushing the ball to the attacking third. They created various chances and some that lead to corners but none resulting in a goal.
They were able to outshoot Colorado 11-8 heading to halftime but Colorado seemed to have the edge with their defensive performance in the half.
In the second half, the Sun Devils came out attacking quickly creating chances from the wings with senior midfielder Casey Martinez and freshman forward Cori Sullivan.
In their third corner of the second half with only 10 minutes in, senior midfielder Jemma Purified crossed it in and senior defender Madison Wolf was able to head it in past the keeper for the equalizer and her first goal of the season.
ASU looked to be in control of the second half shooting 11 times but Colorado’s defense was up to the test.
CU’s offense was also creating their own opportunities in which they shot seven times for the half. Sophomore goalie Nikki Panas stopped any chances that came to her and came up with two big saves to keep it tied and send it to overtime.
The Sun Devils faced their first overtime of the year. They came out looking to attack but both defense were up the tests and saw both overtimes out with no goals being scored. Both teams created various chances to score but no one was successful in doing so.
Sun Devils got their first draw of the year against No. 18 Colorado and now have an overall record of 6-2-1 and a conference record 1-0-1.
The Sun Devils will stay home to face Utah this Sunday at 1pm in which they hope to keep this momentum going they carry in conference play.
