ASU football, ranked No. 23 in the country, head west to face San Diego State in their final non-conference game of the season.

For the first time since the 2015 season opener, the Arizona State Sun Devils are ranked as they face San Diego State.

The Sun Devils entered the AP Poll thanks to a 13-point fourth quarter to complete a 16-13 comeback win against the then 15th-ranked Michigan State Spartans.

Trailing 13-3 heading to the fourth quarter, Arizona State was finally able to connect on some chunk plays with N’Keal Harry bringing down a game-tying 27-yard touchdown pass from Manny Wilkins to tie the game with 8:45 remaining.

The defense came up with a couple of key stops defensively recording their first two sacks of the game in the fourth quarter as ASU got the ball back with 4:55 remaining in regulation.

More from Devils in Detail

Arizona State methodically moved the ball down field, picking up first down after first down and running out the clock to line up for a game-winning field goal attempt.

Brandon Ruiz, who made a 49- and 27-yard field goal earlier in the game, lined up and made a 28-yard field goal as time expired to seal a signature win for the Sun Devils.

Now with many eyeballs on Arizona State nationally, the Sun Devils hit the road for the first time this season as they’ll face San Diego State.

The Aztecs went into Sun Devil Stadium and defeated the Arizona State 30-20 last year behind a huge performance from running Rashaad Penny.

Penny rushed for 216 yards and one touchdown while also returning a kickoff 99 yards to the house in what was a shocking loss for the Sun Devils.

Of course, SDSU ended up defeating Stanford the following week and was a ranked team for many weeks last season.

This is a new look Aztec team with Penny now in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks and starting quarterback Christian Chapman sidelined with an MCL sprain.

San Diego State is 1-1 this season with a 31-10 loss at Stanford and 28-14 win over Sacramento State last week.

Junior Ryan Agnew will make his first career start Saturday night after coming in relief of Chapman. Agnew threw 11-for-17 with 159 and two interceptions.

Running back Juwan Washington is now the lead tailback for the Aztecs and he’s been highly productive this season with 314 rushing yards and four touchdowns this season.

This game will come down to whether if Arizona State can contain the SDSU running game, specifically Washington. If they can limit Washington, it will force the Aztecs to rely on Agnew.

Look for Arizona State’s defense to be aggressive to try to rattle Agnew in his first start and bring a lot of pressure.

The Sun Devils look to get to 3-0 ahead of a potentially huge Pac-12 clash in Seattle against No. 10 Washington next week.
