ASU Football vs. Michigan State: Broadcast Information
By Sam Ficarro
ASU football hosts No. 15 Michigan State in a primetime matchup with the Sun Devils looking to stay undefeated against Big Ten teams in Sun Devil Stadium.
In the biggest non-conference game in three years, Arizona State welcomes in the No. 15 team in the country in Michigan State.
Both teams are coming off wins, but there’s more positive energy surrounding ASU after their 49-7 beatdown of the UTSA Roadrunners.
Arizona State began and finished the first half with two touchdowns leading 28-0 at the break. ASU went on to outscore UTSA 21-7 in the second half to put the finishing touches on a dominant win.
Quarterback Manny Wilkins began his senior campaign slinging the ball targeting N’Keal Harry early and often. Wilkins threw for 237 yards and four touchdowns while Harry caught six passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns.
In total, nine different Sun Devils caught passes from Wilkins and backup Dillon Sterling-Cole, who came on to play the majority of the fourth quarter.
The running game also was effective as running back Eno Benjamin rushed for 131 yards and one touchdown in his first career start. Isaiah Floyd rushed for 79 yards and one touchdown as the Sun Devils ran for 266 yards.
Their offense will need that balanced effort Saturday night against Michigan State, one of the most consistent teams in the country.
The Spartans were ranked 11th in the preseason AP Poll, but fell four spots after a narrow seven-point home win over Utah State last Friday.
It took a Connor Heyward 13-yard touchdown run with two minutes remaining in regulation to give the Spartans the win as Utah State held a 31-30 lead.
Michigan State won 38-31 despite allowing 334 yards of total offense versus the Aggies. Last season, the Spartans allowed only 20.0 points per game and 297.6 yards per game.
Quarterback Brian Lewerke, a Phoenix native and grad of Pinnacle High School, threw for 287 yards and two touchdowns while running back LJ Scott finished with 23 carries for 84 yards.
Despite their slow start to the season, this is a team that’s still slated to contend for the Big Ten championship and the College Football Playoff.
Michigan State returns most of the starters from last season led by Lewerke and Scott on the offensive side of the ball and linebacker Joe Bachie on the defensive side of the ball.
It’s going to come down whether Arizona State can move the ball against the Spartans’ stingy defense and how Michigan State deals with the 100-degree weather.
