The ASU soccer team split the 2018 Sun Devil Classic in what was tale of two different games for the team.

In their first game of the weekend, the team went down early against University of New Hampshire after giving up a 25th minute penalty which was converted.

The Wildcats were able build on their lead a minute after when junior Kaylan Williams caught Sydney Day a little off her line putting one right over her and in for the 2-0 lead.

Wildcats from then on was able to sit back and allow Sun Devils to attack and hold possession.

Head coach Graham Winkworth tweaked the formation to a three defender look to attack more.

More from Devils in Detail

It pay dividends right after the second half started when freshman midfielder Alexia Douglas, in her debut, rocketed a shot from the edge of box and went bar down which cut the lead to one.

They continued to put pressure but nothing came from it which allowed New Hampshire to capture the win.

The second game of weekend versus Southeast Missouri State was a different game for the Sun Devils.

They pressed early and when the gained possession of ball, they slowly build opportunities from side-to-side.

The defense held strong early on and it all began in their midfield not allowing them get to their attacking half.

After just being subbed in, Casey Martinez captured her first goal of the season. After her first shot was deflected, she was able to regain possession and fire a shot outside of the box in to the far post.

The Sun Devils outshot the Redhawks 13-3 and were dominating possession leaving them on the front foot in the half

The second half was more of the same for the Sun Devils but were able to notch in three more goals to add on to the lead scored by Cori Sullivan, Eva Van Deursen, and Nicole Douglas.

The game was controlled by the Sun Devils offense with outshooting the Redhawks 24-7 and created 10 corner kick opportunities. They were able to win the ball back in midfield and not allow much opportunities for the Redhawks giving Nikki Panas a clean sheet for the day.

The Sun Devils next game will be versus Baylor at Tucson on Friday with kickoff at 4 pm.
