4. Manny Wilkins and N’Keal Harry’s close relationship
A connection that was consistently apparent during Pac-12 Media Day was the close relationship that Wilkins and Harry share off the field.
The quarterback and wide receiver got together for several goofy moments throughout the day, including an opera singing of the “Go Devils” chant at ASU football games and photos taken with silly masks and accessories.
Although Wilkins’ life story has led him to be recognized as one of the most mature athletes on the team, Harry says that his gunslinger is one of the most fun-loving people around.
“Manny is goofy,” Harry told Pac-12 Networks. “Don’t let him fool you. I’ve had so many great memories with Manny.”
Wilkins laughed and couldn’t help but accept it.
“I’m shocked he tried to throw me under the bus for being goofy, but it is what is is,” he said. “I got to defuse it now. I try to hide that part from society.”
Wilkins took Harry in as his roommate when he came to Arizona State, and since then, the two have made the most of creating a close bond off the field.
Last season, the pair had their best connection yet. Harry caught 82 passes for 1,142 receiving yards to go along with eight touchdowns, good enough to earn him All-Pac-12 First Team Honors while Wilkins earned an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection.
In what may the final season for both players in a Sun Devil uniform, expect their connection to be even bigger this season. ASU returns several high-impact players on offense, but coach Edwards realizes the experience that the two bring to the table and assured they’ll link up at key points of the season.
“Everyone knows about No. 1 [Harry],” Edwards told Pac-12 Networks. “Is he going to get the ball? I’m the head coach–he’s going to get the ball. I had him in the Under Armour game, and I can still remember the catch down the boundary with one hand, and I went, ‘that guy is really good.’ I’m smart enough to figure this thing out, and the good players in the big moments want the ball, and we got to make sure that we get him the ball.”
