ASU Football: Who’s the toughest opponents on the schedule?
By Sam Ficarro
8. UCLA Bruins
Similar to Arizona State, UCLA underwent wholesale changes firing head coach Jim Mora and making the splashiest hire during the coaching carousel bringing in former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly.
Kelly elevated Oregon to historic heights bringing the Ducks to the National Championship game in 2014 where they lost to Ohio State.
The Bruins are coming off a disappointing 6-6 season in which they lost to Kansas State in the Cactus Bowl.
UCLA was led by quarterback Josh Rosen, but he’s now in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals and face a question mark under center.
Devin Modster started the bowl game against the Wildcats and is the presumed frontrunner to start at quarterback.
UCLA faces a lot of questions of how their defense will be as they allowed 36.6 points per game last season. Kelly’s teams has never been known for having good defenses.
I expect this season to be a transition one for Kelly and the Bruins and Arizona State should be the favorites to win this game in what will be Senior Day for the Sun Devils.
Arizona State’s familiarity on offense with Manny Wilkins and N’Keal Harry gives them an advantage with cornerback Chase Lucas and linebacker Koron Crump leading the defense.
