ASU Football: Who’s the toughest opponents on the schedule?
By Sam Ficarro
10. Oregon State Beavers
The first Pac-12 opponent for Arizona State makes its debut at No. 10.
Oregon State is coming off a poor 1-11 season that saw head coach Gary Anderson resign midseason.
Former Beaver graduate Jonathan Smith takes over as head coach after a four-year stint as Washington’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Arizona State defeated Oregon State in Corvallis last season 40-24 as the Sun Devils rushed for 295 yards with Kalen Ballage and Demario Richard rushing for over 100 yards apiece.
Darell Garretson started for OSU in that game throwing for 269 yards and two interceptions with running back Ryan Nall held to just 42 yards on 12 carries.
With Garretson graduated and Nall in the NFL with the Chicago Bears, Oregon State’s offense is going to look different.
Senior Jake Luton is probably the frontrunner to be the starting quarterback next season as he started the first four games of the season before being replaced by Garretson.
Luton threw for 853 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions last season.
It’s going to be a young and inexperienced team Oregon State fields so Arizona State should win this game comfortably especially with the game being in Tempe.
