1. Washington Huskies

Last by not least, Washington ranks as the toughest opponent Arizona State will face this season.

The Sun Devils pulled off one of the biggest upsets of last season defeating the then fifth-ranked Huskies 13-7 as Washington missed two field goals within 30 yards.

Quarterback Jake Browning was left scrambling all night as he was sacked four times on a late October night with Washington only putting up 230 yards of total offense.

Browning threw for 139 yards on 17 completions while running back Myles Gaskin rushed for 67 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Dante Pettis finished with seven catches for 56 yards.

Arizona State had their best defensive performance in years under Todd Graham in that game as the Huskies couldn’t get into a rhythm offensively.

The Sun Devils did enough offensively behind Manny Wilkins throwing for 245 yards, Kalen Ballage scoring ASU’s only touchdown and kicker Brandon Ruiz converting two field goals.

Despite losing Pettis and defensive tackle Vita Vea to the NFL, Washington does return Browning and Gaskin for what they hope is a last push for a national championship.

The Huskies went 11-3 last season with losses to ASU, Stanford and Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl.

Their defense will be stout again this season despite the loss of the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year in Vea. Washington allowed 16.1 points per game and 298.0 total yards per game last season.

Washington will more than likely be the preseason pick to win the Pac-12 as they are a class above the other teams in the conference.

With the game being in Seattle on Sept. 22, it will be Arizona State’s toughest road game of the season. The Sun Devils got dismantled at Husky Stadium two years ago when they lost 44-18.
