With momentum on their side, ASU baseball looked to capitalize on game two of their three game series against Washington, but failed to do so in a 7-3 loss.

After winning on Friday night in walk-off fashion, ASU baseball took the loss on Saturday night to Washington in game two of a three game series by a final score of 7-3.

The Sun Devils scattered 12 hits, including 11 off of starting pitcher Joe DeMers, but failed to capitalize on their opportunities with only three runs.

ASU was 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position as multi-hit games from Hunter Jump, Lyle Lin and Alika Williams went to waste against the Huskies.

While the offense had a spotty performance, the Sun Devils pitching staff on the night was shaky as starting pitcher Brady Corrigan was unable to get out of the third inning as the freshman righty gave up three earned runs.

More from Devils in Detail

The freshman’s ERA on the season rose to 5.96 as Corrigan now sports an 0-4 record in 2018.

In relief of Corrigan was Connor Higgins, who was even weaker in relief of the starter as the junior lefty allowed another three earned runs in 1.1 innings of work. After tonight’s outing, Higgins now has an 8.14 ERA.

Grant Schneider, Spencer Van Scoyoc, Sam Romero, Colby Davis and Chaz Montoya then combined to only allow one run in five innings of relief for Corrigan and Higgins.

The star of the game for Washington was Joe Wainhouse, whose first inning RBI double and third inning three-run home run put the four runs on the board that Washington needed for victory.

Insurance runs for the Huskies came in the form of a two-run double from Mason Cerrillo and a seventh inning wild pitch from Sam Romero that allowed the seventh run of the contest in Ward to score.

Braiden Ward’s two hit day was the only other multi-hit performance on the evening for the Huskies outside of Cerrillo and Wainhouse’s outings at the plate.

Although he scattered 11 hits on the night, Joe Demers survived to only allow three earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched for Washington.

A two-run home run from Hunter Jump (his first of the season) in the fourth innings and a sacrifice fly from Gage Canning that allowed Hunter Bishop to score in the seventh inning was DeMers’ only blemishes on the night.

In relief of DeMers was Stevie Emanuels for 0.2 innings and Josh Burgmann for the final two innings. The two freshman did not allow a run in relief of DeMers.
