ASU baseball dropped the rubber game versus No. 5 Oregon State 6-5 with the Beavers scoring two in the seventh inning to secure the series win.

The Arizona State baseball team dropped the third and final game to No. 5 Oregon State despite a strong showing from the plate from Gage Canning.

ASU jumped early on the No. 5 ranked team in the nation after stealing the middle game of the three-game series the day before with an 8-5 victory in Corvallis, Oregon.

The Sun Devils collected nine hits including three extra-base hits to supply five runs for senior southpaw Eli Lingos who was on the mound for ASU. Lingos struggled throughout the day to keep runners off of the base paths as he allowed 13 hits and four walks in his seven innings of work.

ASU secured an early lead in the top of the first after Canning picked up his first of three hits on the day with a one-out double to gets things started for the Sun Devils. Canning was knocked in two batters later by Lyle Lin on an RBI single to right field.

The lead for Lingos and company would be short-lived as a pair of home runs would account for three of Oregon State’s four runs in the first three innings making it 4-1.

ASU would answer back shortly after as freshman Spencer Torkelson drew a bases-loaded four-pitch walk followed by a Canning RBI single that would score the pair of freshman in Alika Williams and Drew Swift to knot the score at four.

The Sun Devils would take their second lead of the day behind a Hunter Jump two-out RBI double that would knock in Swift to put ASU ahead 5-4 in the sixth inning.

Lingos was unable to hold the lead for more than an inning as the Beavers struck in the bottom of the seventh behind a leadoff double. Oregon State would end the inning with three hits and two runs that put them ahead for good 6-5.
