Sam Jones decided to leave ASU following his redshirt junior season, and he now hopes to be picked in the late rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Offensive guard Sam Jones is one of Arizona State’s draft prospects in 2018, and he is the ninth-ranked in the position in the draft class, according to CBS Sports.
Standing six-foot-five and 305 pounds, Jones left ASU as a redshirt junior following the departure of former head coach Todd Graham. In his final season with the Sun Devils, Jones was named honorable mention All-Pac-12 and started in all 13 games.
Previously, he started seven games in 2016 before an foot injury sidelined him midway through the season, and he also started five games in his redshirt freshman season.
Coming out of high school, Jones was a three-star prospect out of ThunderRidge High School in Littleton, Colorado.
Some things Jones will bring to the table are athleticism and his quickness, but there are a few things scouts are worried about.
NFL.com said his weaknesses include a sunken chest on a thin frame, a weak core and his size.
At the NFL combine, his numbers did not stand out, but he did finish in the top 10 offensive guards in bench press, the cone drill and 20-yard shuttle. Jones ran a 5.32-second 40-yard dash, the 18th-best of all offensive guards.
