ASU softball’s hot streak continued Sunday when the Sun Devils completed the sweep of California, improving the team’s record to 27-4 overall.
At this point in time, Arizona State University is a softball school.
In the sixth inning, it was a tie game between the Sun Devils and Golden Bears, but one swing of the bat changed everything.
A Skylar McCarty grand slam gave Arizona State a 4-0 lead in the sixth. The jack was the only scoring play of the entire game and one of ASU’s only five hits of the game.
Dale Ryndak started in the circle for the Sun Devils, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing two hits and two walks.
She was later replaced in the third inning by Breanna Macha, who picked up the win for the Sun Devils, allowing one hit and one walk in her 2.1 innings.
Giselle “G” Juarez closed the game and recorded her third save of the season, striking four batters out in two innings. Juarez has been a cornerstone to this team’s success this season, as she has posted an ERA of 0.75 with a 12-1 record in her 14 appearances.
This is ASU’s second series win since beginning conference play. Last weekend, the Sun Devils took two of three from No. 1 Washington, and they added the sweep of another top 25 team this weekend in No. 20 Cal.
Before the series, ASU was ranked 20th in the nation, but it is likely the Sun Devils will rise in the polls with this weekend’s sweep.
