After losing in extra innings versus Oklahoma State Sunday, ASU baseball bounced back Tuesday afternoon with a 10-7 road win over Pepperdine.
Arizona State defeated Pepperdine on the road in a 10-7 offensive battle on Tuesday.
There were 17 runs and 24 hits between to the two teams. Ten different pitchers were on the hill Tuesday. Every hitter in ASU’s lineup reached base as eight different Sun Devils got hits and five had a multi-hit game.
Gage Canning and Lyle Lin both put together multi-hit games at the top of the lineup. They both have at least one hit in all 13 games of the season so far.
Both the Devils and the Waves put together five-run innings.
For the Devils, it came in the top of the third when they collected five hits off of Pepperdine’s Cooper Chandler. Carter Aldrete and Hunter Bishop each drove in two runs in the third. ASU led the game 6-2 at that point.
The Waves scored five in the bottom of the fourth. Four of the five runs came from a grand slam by Ahron Madlin. Those five runs tied the game for the Waves at 7.
The ASU bullpen did their job after the fourth and Pepperdine didn’t score another run. Arizona State scored two more in the fifth with RBI singles from Bishop and Canning. ASU also scored in the eighth thanks to a solo home run by freshman Spencer Torkelson, his eighth of the year.
Chaz Montoya earned his third save of the season. It appears that he is the go-to closer for the Sun Devils as it stands. He has given up just one run in 9.1 innings and he has struck out 12 batters.
With the victory, Arizona State improves to 7-6 on the year. This is a good stretch for ASU as it is their third win in four games.
