ASU softball returns from the Mary Nutter Classic to open a 13-game home stand with a pair of games versus Costal Carolina and a game with New Mexico State.

Coming into the weekend at 16-2 and ranked No. 16 in the country, the Arizona State Sun Devils are heading into the Devil Classic with full confidence. The Devil Classic in Tempe will be the final tournament for ASU during the regular season.

Arizona State will be participating against two teams, Coastal Carolina and New Mexico State.

Coastal Carolina is 11-5. After starting off the season hot winning nine of their first eleven, the Chanticleers have cooled off losing three of their last five. Key hitter to watch is freshman infielder Courtney Dean. The North Carolina native has had an excellent start to her college career batting a team-leading .529 with three homers and nine RBIs.

Also look out for senior Kailey Mellen who will be returning home to her native state of Arizona this weekend. Originally from Tucson, Mellen is hitting .394 with three home runs.

New Mexico State is 9-5. They have some impressive but also disappointing losses, defeating prestige programs such as Kentucky, but also losing to weaker programs like Ball State.

The Aggies can hit. Their average is .327 and have already scored 80 runs. Shelby Shutes, Fahren Glackin, and Amy Bergeson are batting over .380. Former Second-Team ALL Wac Team junior Victoria Castro has roped over four home runs.

New Mexico State has only used four pitchers all season. They’ve struggled with a team ERA of 3.69 compared to ASU’s 1.84 ERA. Kayla Green is their ace with 6 wins and a 3.39 ERA and 18 Ks.
