After a 4-0 start to begin Pac-12 play, ASU women’s basketball fell for its first time in conference play to Oregon State, 57-54.

No. 22 Oregon State defeated the 18th-ranked Sun Devils in Corvallis on Friday, giving ASU its first loss since mid-December.

Robbi Ryan led the scoring effort for the Sun Devils, recording 19 points, tying her career high. On the other side, Marie Gulich led the Beavers with 20 points.

Oregon State out-rebounded Arizona State 36-28 and the Beavers shot an impressive 54 percent from the field. Gulich, Katie McWilliams and Mikayla Pivec each had six boards for the Beavers.

The first quarter was back and forth, for the largest lead in the period was by four points. ASU held a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter with a score of 12-10.

Arizona State started the second quarter hot, as the team extended its lead to nine at one point. Oregon State, however, clawed back into the game shrinking the Sun Devil lead to two at the end of the half.

The third quarter remained neck and neck, but the Beavers still couldn’t find a way to take the lead in the entire third period. ASU led once again at the end of three by a score of 46-45.

McWilliams hit a jumper early in the fourth quarter to give OSU its first lead since 2:09 left in the first. The teams traded basket for basket, and the game was tied at 54 a piece with 54 seconds left in the game.

Gulich scored a layup and a free throw in the final minute to give Oregon State a three-point lead. As a result, Oregon State escaped the game, winning by a score of 57-54.

The 22nd-ranked Beavers bounced back after losing both of their games last week to the L.A. schools.
