Following a 32-point season-opening win over UTSA, ASU women’s basketball win their first road game of the season 81-49 over Fresno State.
ASU women’s basketball followed up a big win over UTSA with another 32-point win as the Sun Devils routed Fresno State 81-49.
The Sun Devils got off to a slow start, but the offense really got going in the second quarter with forward Courtney Ekmark making her first five shots and two free throws to start the game with 12 points. Ekmark finished with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting.
Arizona State played suffocating defense Wednesday out-rebounding Fresno State 41-25, forcing 15 turnovers and limiting the Bulldogs to 29 percent shooting from the field.
The leading scorers for Fresno State was guard Candice White and forward Genna Ogier as each scored 10 points.

Fresno State’s strength was their three-point shooting, and ASU did a great job preventing them from getting good looks off. The Bulldogs finished 7-of-18 from three, with the majority of the field goals coming in the fourth quarter when the game was out of reach.
Forward Jamie Ruden made her season-debut after missing the season-opener with a back injury and finished with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
The frontcourt continued to impress as center Charnea Johnson-Chapman scored a career-high 16 points to go with three rebounds and forward Kianna Ibis scored 10 points, including three straight field goals to open up the third quarter.
Guard Robbi Ryan scored 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting off the bench as Arizona State shot 56 percent from the field.
The Sun Devils had to deal with changing defenses from Fresno State as they alternated between man-to-man defense to a 2-3 zone defense.
ASU struggled playing against zone defense last season, but the Sun Devils were prepared for the changing defensive looks and converted many perimeter shots. ASU finished with 32 points in the paint.
Arizona State displayed their depth as 10 of 11 players recorded at least a point.
