After dismantling UTSA in the season opener Sunday, ASU women’s basketball face Fresno State Wednesday in their first road game of the season.

The Arizona State Sun Devils will roll up to Fresno, CA to take on the Fresno State Bulldogs in their second game of the season. Each team kicked off their season on a great note with powerful wins.

On Sunday, Sabrina Haines and the rest of Sun Devils dominated the University of Texas at San Antonio by a final score of 74-42.

The most notable players in the game were Haines and junior center Kianna Ibis. Haines scored 18 total points, including nailing a 4-point-play to kick the game off in style. Haines is primed for a big season as she will lead the talented Sun Devil backcourt.

Ibis grabbed 16 points of her own, and was one rebound shy of a double-double. Ibis owned the paint while Charnea Johnson-Chapman and Sophia Elenga contributed inside as well. The Sun Devils scored 48 total points in the paint in Sunday’s season opener

Fresno State’s season opener showcased the emergence of possibly the most dangerous trio in the Mountain West, Kristina Cavey, Bree Delaney and Candice White. The three combined for 51 points while playing just 23 minutes each in their dismantling win over Eastern Washington 81-56.

ASU has more depth in their roster, especially with 10 Devils getting quality minutes on Sunday. The talent of Cavey and Delaney and the skills of White will be seriously tested Wednesday night when they face-off against the strong ASU frontcourt.

For Fresno State to be successful Wednesday night, their frontcourt will have to outplay Haines, Richardson and Russell of ASU.

Courtney Ekmark could be the key to ASU after scoring 12 points Sunday as she improved as the game went on.

A solid game by Ekmark and the continued dominance of Ibis and Johnson-Chapman down low will be the deciding factors for whether or not the Sun Devils find themselves successful in Fresno.
