ASU Volleyball once again fell tonight to the Oregon Ducks in straight sets, making ASU’s record now 0-15 in conference play.
The struggle has not ended for the ASU volleyball team.
Arizona State is now 10-17 overall and 0-15 in Pac-12 play this season following the team’s three-set loss to 16th-ranked Oregon.
ASU got off to an early lead in the first game, as the Sun Devils led by a score of 9-6. The Ducks came back into the game; however, as they took the lead 15-13 and made the Sun Devils call timeout.
Arizona State went on to allow several service aces and errors as the set went on, leading to the Ducks taking set one, 25-17.

The Sun Devils once again started with the lead in set, as they led 11-6. The teams went point for point toward the end of the set, and then ASU won consecutive points to make the score 22-20, leading to an Oregon timeout.
The Ducks regrouped after the timeout and went on to win the second set by a score of 25-23.
Interim head coach Carlos Moreno was satisfied with how his team played in set two, but he said the team needs to stay focused for every play.
“We played a really good second set; I was happy with that set,” Moreno said. “In the Pac-12, we have to maintain overtime. We rode that roller coaster again: we had an amazing play, and then we let a ball drop between six players, and we can’t do that. We can’t take any plays off.”
In contrast to the first two sets, Oregon started with the lead in set three, for the Ducks led with a score of 8-4. Oregon would not lose the lead, as the team went on to win the set 25-22, clinching the match victory.
ASU only has five more opportunities to win, but sophomore Nicole Peterson remains confident in the team.
“Every time we step out on that court we have a chance, so hopefully we have five chances,” Peterson said.
The next match for the Sun Devils is on Saturday against Oregon State, and the Beavers are receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll.
The Beavers are led by Mary-Kate Marshall, who leads the conference in kills per set with 4.60. However, Coach Moreno is confident the Sun Devils can neutralize her star power.
“She is a great player; she’s not a great passer,” Moreno said. We’re going to go after her, and if we serve well, she doesn’t have many options offensively.”
