ASU Volleyball: Bruins defeat Sun Devils in straight sets

The Sun Devil volleyball team lost for the 14th-straight time on Saturday against UCLA. The Sun Devils remain winless in conference following the loss.

After falling to USC for the first game of the weekend, the ASU volleyball team once again lost, this time at the hands of UCLA, who is ranked 18th in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

The beginning of the first set was close between ASU and UCLA, for the teams were tied at nine. However, the Bruins later broke the set apart, as the team went on an 8-2 run to put the Bruins up 17-11. UCLA went on to take the set 25-16 following its run.

UCLA came out hot in the second set, as the team started on a 5-1 run. The Bruins cruised once again, as they won the set by a score of 25-16.

Set three once again started close, as the score was 11-10 in favor of the Bruins, but the UCLA lead would eventually expand. The Bruins went on to win the set, 25-21, clinching a 3-0 match victory.

The loss moves the Sun Devils to 10-16 overall and 0-14 in conference, while UCLA is now 15-8 overall and 8-6 in conference play.

ASU only has six more matches on the season, and time is running out for the Devils to get their first win in conference play. The Sun Devils only play against two more teams that are currently ranked the remainder of the season in Oregon and Utah.

The next contest for the Sun Devils will come on Thursday against Oregon, which is another top 25 opponent. The Ducks swept ASU in the first match between the teams in Eugene.

The second match of next weekend is against Oregon State, who is unranked but receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll. Oregon State defeated ASU in four sets in the match in Corvallis.
