ASU football plays their penultimate home game of the season Saturday vs. Colorado with the Sun Devils looking to bounce back after rough loss vs. USC.

ASU football has erased last week’s tough outing versus USC as the Sun Devils get ready to host divisional foe Colorado.

The Sun Devils are coming off a forgettable performance against the then-21st ranked Trojans losing 48-17 in which the offense was ineffective all night.

Quarterback Manny Wilkins put up respectable numbers throwing 17-of-29 passes for 259 yards and one touchdown, but the running game was nonexistent as the team ran for only 79 yards.

Wide receiver Kyle Williams had a big game for the Sun Devils finishing with seven receptions, 121 yards and one touchdown, but wide receiver N’Keal Harry was not involved much finishing with three catches for 86 yards.

More from Devils in Detail

The offensive line struggled as well as Wilkins was sacked six times as USC linebacker Uchenna Nwosu and defensive end Rasheem Green tallied three sacks apiece.

Arizona State’s defense, who were coming off two strong performances, reverted back to old habits as USC quarterback Sam Darnold and running back Ronald Jones gashed the Devils defense for 607 yards.

Jones had a career night for the Trojans rushing the ball 18 times for 216 yards and two touchdowns while Darnold threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns.

ASU will look to turn things around Saturday versus Colorado, who are coming off a 44-28 win over California last week.

The Buffaloes were an offensive juggernaut against the Golden Bears as Colorado finished with 553 yards of total offense thanks to quarterback Steven Montez and running back Phillip Lindsay.

Montez had one of his best games of the season throwing 20-of-26 passes for 347 yards and three touchdowns.

Lindsay rushed for 161 yards last week as the Sun Devils will face the nation’s third-leading rusher this week.

After this week’s game, Arizona State will have faced four of the nation’s eight leading rushers in Bryce Love (No. 1), Rashaad Penny (No. 2), Lindsay (No. 3) and Royce Freeman (No. 8).

The Sun Devils will need to find a way to contain him after Lindsay rushed for a season-high 219 yards and three touchdowns in Colorado’s 40-16 win last season.

If ASU can take away the running game, it will allow them to be aggressive in the pass rush against Montez and attempt to disrupt his timing in the pocket.

Arizona State needs to get the running game going Saturday with running backs Demario Richard and Kalen Ballage, who missed the majority of last week’s game with an illness.

An effective running game will open the passing game for Wilkins with Colorado ranking seventh in the Pac-12 in total defense.
