ASU hockey wrapped up their six-game road trip with a 1-1 tie at Colgate with Tyler Busch scoring the lone goal for the Sun Devils.
On Saturday afternoon, ASU hockey squared off against Colgate for a 1-1 tie in the second, and final game of the series. The Sun Devils were looking to rebound after a rough 3-0 loss to Colgate the night before.
The Sun Devils (1-5-2) improved in their second game against Colgate (3-2-3). When asked for his thoughts on the game, head coach Greg Powers said, “The effort was way better. Obviously, we got a great game out of our goalie, which is awesome to see. He gave us a chance to win tonight, and that’s all you can ask.”
The Devils were out-shot for the second straight night, one in which they ended with a 48-22 disadvantage in the shot totals. As coach Powers said, the night was saved by the effort of goalie Joey Daccord.

Daccord finished his spectacular night in net with 47 saves on 48 shots, which is good for a .979 save percentage. The outstanding performance capped a solid weekend for the sophomore goalie, as he finished with a 2.00 GAA and .951 save percentage.
The goals in this game came from ASU’s Tyler Busch and Colgate’s Tyler Penner. The goal was Busch’s second of the season, while Penner scored his first. Steenn Pasichnuk and Ben Sharf recorded assists on the Busch and Penner goals, respectively.
The Busch goal was both Arizona State’e first of the game and the series. Coach Powers said after the game, “We got to find a way to generate more offense and get more pucks to the net.”
Fortunately for the men’s hockey team, the schedule gives them 2 series at home and a bye week following their three-week road trip.
Coach Powers expressed optimism for the team, “It’s going to be great…it’ll be great for the guys. We can just go in, reset, and focus on winning on home ice.”
The optimism is warranted after yet another close road game in a trip that was packed with them. Coach Powers sees the possibilities of where this team can go, and insists they’re close.
“We like our team, and they’re learning how to compete and win at this level. I think if we can streak a few together, then they’re going to get it.”
