Right out of the gate, Chloe Isleta, Silja Kansakoski, Fanny Teijonsalo, and Claire Fisch showed great speed in the women’s 200 medley relay, but were unable to gain points due to a relay start disqualification.

Following the women’s 200 medley relay, the men’s team executed tremendous endurance by out touching the Utah A relay by .23 hundredths of a second.

Some of the best race performances tonight were from the newest members of the ASU swim team.

During the 50-yard freestyle, Carlson out touched Craig by .14 hundredths of a second placing him in first.

Head Coach Bob Bowman said had many positive things to say about Carlson’s performance.

“I was very impressed by that 50. Evan’s got a world of talent, but we still have a lot to do in terms of starts and turns,” Bowman said. “He is a real deal swimmer so we’re glad he’s here.”

Bowman and assistant coach Rachel Stratton both specified on the team’s overall physicality.

“They are very much in great shape. They closed their races really well and that’s how you want to start a season,” Stratton said. “They’ve been putting in tremendous work and they showed that in their races.”

Already having the first win of the season, the ASU coaches express their excitement about the upcoming season.

“It’s good to be back in competition because it changes their mindset,” Bowman said. “We’ve been training for two months now without any really meets so this will start to sharpen them up.”
