ASU Football: Sun Devils and Adidas Unveil “Brotherhood” Uniforms
Arizona State University and adidas presented the “Brotherhood” alternate football uniforms today. ASU football will wear the special edition uniforms when ASU hosts Colorado on Saturday, November 4th at Sun Devil Stadium.
The Adidas Football uniform pays tribute to active U.S. military members and veterans. It was designed in collaboration with Sun Devil Athletics and the Pat Tillman Foundation, according to adidas.com.
“It will be a special deal recognizing the great Sun Devil, Pat Tillman, and all of the people that serve and defend our great country,” ASU head coach Todd Graham said about the uniform.
Arizona State University has played an active role in supporting and honoring the U.S. military through its Salute to Service enterprise. The Sun Devils continue to honor ASU alum Pat Tillman who gave the ultimate sacrifice in 2004, while serving with the 75th Ranger Regiment in eastern Afghanistan.
“Inspired by Tillman’s legacy, the special edition “Brotherhood” uniforms are centered around the tan colors of Army fatigues and accented with the Sun Devils’ iconic maroon and gold colors,” Adidas described in its press release.
The word “Brotherhood” will be displayed in bold on the back of the helmets. Names of any ASU player or coach who has served or is serving in the U.S. Military will be listed underneath.
Adidas detailed the phrase “Give ‘em Hell” from the ASU fight song in the uniform. Tillman is known for saying this famous line before ASU knocked off No. 1 Nebraska 19-0 in 1996.
Tillman played in the NFL as a safety for the Arizona Cardinals from 1998-2001. In 2002, he enlisted in the U.S. Army with his brother.
Despite lacking size, Tillman excelled as a linebacker in his career at ASU helping the team reach the 1997 Rose Bowl after an undefeated season and earned Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year.
