ASU volleyball dropped both of its matches last weekend at home to drop to 0-8 in Pac-12 play, and now the team looks to end the losing streak against Oregon State tonight.

Following its eighth loss in a row, ASU volleyball looks to win its first game of the conference season tonight against Oregon State.

The Sun Devils won the first set against the Utes on Sunday, but they dropped the following three sets, extending the losing streak to eight.

Coach Tomasevic has brought in player’s from the men’s club volleyball team to practice against the girls, and senior libero Halle Harker said it is very beneficial for the attack.

“It’s very effective and great for our team,” Harker said. “It’s more for our offensive players and having to hit against this big block.”

Despite the losing streak, Coach Tomasevic has seen improvement from the girls in keeping their heads in the game.

“I just hope we stay mindful from the beginning to the end,” Tomasevic said. “We need to do our job, and I think our girls are getting a better understanding of what that means.”

Tomasevic will not travel with the team this weekend due to her pregnancy, so assistant coach Carlos Moreno will temporarily fill-in for the head coaching duties.

Oregon State comes into tonight’s match on a three-game winning streak with wins over Washington, Washington State and Arizona. The Beavers are 4-5 in Pac-12 play, showing tremendous improvement from a team that started 0-4 in conference.

Mary-Kate Marshall is the leader for this Oregon State squad. She is second in the Pac-12 in kills per set, third in service aces per set and second in points per set.

While away games are typically looked at as tougher, Harker said she actually prefers playing on the road.

“Honestly, I think it’s easier to stay focused on the road. You don’t have any home distractions, so I prefer away games just because I think there are less distractions.”
