ASU men’s basketball earned a big verbal commitment from five-star guard Luguentz Dort Wednesday afternoon. Dort becomes the first member of the 2018 recruiting class.

Following the upcoming season Arizona State will lose three seniors in Tra Holder, Shannon Evans II and Kodi Justice. The trio currently makes up a formidable backcourt for the Sun Devils.

Freshman guard Remy Martin is waiting in the wings but following the acquisition of five-star Luguentz Dort, the future looks even brighter in Tempe.

More from Devils in Detail

Ranked the No.3 shooting guard in the class of 2018, Dort is the second-highest recruit in ASU program history, trailing only James Harden. A gifted passer with an abundance of athleticism, his impact will be noticeable immediately.

Landing a commitment from Dort is a testament to how quickly Bobby Hurley is revitalizing this program. Dort is Hurley’s sixth recruit of at least four stars.

Dort’s commitment comes in just over three weeks before ASU tips off the season. Hurley’s team was projected to finish sixth in the Pac-12 preseason poll.
