ASU Volleyball: Devils look to regroup against UCLA
By Carson Field
After losing its first four matches in Pac-12 play, the ASU volleyball team will look to regroup tomorrow night against UCLA.
The ASU volleyball team has gotten off to a rough start in conference play, losing its first four conference matches. The Sun Devils dropped both of their matches this past weekend in the Bay Area against Stanford and California.
After losing its first four matches in Pac-12 play, the ASU volleyball team will look to regroup tonight against UCLA. ASU did not win a set against Stanford or California on last weekend’s road trip.
The Bruins come into the match as the No. 13 team in the nation, and they are 3-2 in conference play. UCLA topped Arizona in three sets Wednesday.
The team’s only two conference losses are against USC and Washington, who are both ranked in the top 15 of the AVCA Coaches Poll.
After dropping the last four matches, Coach Tomasevic says the team needs to remember the winning process.

“The result is something we somewhat control,” Tomasevic said. “We don’t control it 100%, but we do control the process, and that’s the part they’re not grasping yet. We spent the whole week talking about the process and making sure everybody does what they’re supposed to do, and then the result is going to come around.”
One aspect that needed to be improved upon after the Cal game is the serving, as the team recorded 10 service errors in the 3-0 loss.
“We need to be more aggressive serving,” Tomasevic said. “It’s funny because we’re aggressive serving in practice, but for some reason we don’t bring it in the games.”
Not only are the Bruins ranked 15th in the nation, but they are also a really efficient team, according to Coach Tomasevic.
“They’re a pretty darn good team,” Tomasevic said. “They dig balls, they’re a really smart offensive team. They’re just one of those teams that give you the ball and challenge you to make a mistake, so patience against UCLA will be key.”
A key player for UCLA is Zana Muno. She is the junior libero for the Bruins, and she is currently second in the conference with 4.36 digs per set.
Sarah Sponcil is another important player for UCLA, for she leads the team and is third in the Pac-12 with 11.19 assists per set.
