ASU soccer scored early in the first half but couldn’t hang on versus a 10-player Texas Tech team as Sun Devils drop third game of the season 2-1.

ASU soccer were looking to bounce back after a winless weekend at home in the Sun Devil Desert Classic versus Boston University and No. 24 Central Florida.

The Sun Devils traveled to Tucson to begin the University of Arizona Tournament to face Texas Tech Friday.

Unfortunately for the Sun Devils, the winless streak has reached three matches after dropping the tournament opener versus the Red Raiders 2-1.

More from Devils in Detail

Arizona State broke through first in the 14th minute on a corner kick from winger Jemma Purfield finding Christina Edwards, who settled the ball down in the box and shot the ball into the back of the net past Texas Tech goalkeeper Carissa Christensen.

It’s the earliest goal Arizona State has scored this season and their first goal scored in the first half since August 25 at San Diego State.

The lead was short-lived for the Sun Devils as the match became the Ally Griffin show.

The Red Raiders forward scored an equalizer off a corner kick in the 16th minute and the match was back to square one.

It would stayed tied at halftime with Arizona State gaining a player advantage after Texas Tech midfielder Carly Wickenheiser was sent off with a red card in the 52nd minute with a high boot into the neck of ASU forward Jessica Raybe.

The Sun Devils couldn’t take advantage of the extra player on the field as Griffin slotted a low-driving shot from the top of the box into the bottom corner of the net for the game-winning goal in the 88th minute.

Arizona State out-shot Texas Tech 6-4 in the second half, but couldn’t really challenge the new Texas Tech goalkeeper Marissa Zucchetto.

Forward Jazmarie Mader had the best chance with a shot going just wide in the 65th minute.
