After suffering a tough overtime loss versus Ohio State, ASU soccer won an exhibition match versus Beijing Normal University 4-0.

ASU soccer began their 2017 season with a heartbreaking overtime loss versus Ohio State 2-1 as the Buckeyes’ Meghan Kammerdeiner scored the winning goal in the 98th minute.

The Sun Devils took the positives from that match and looked to get some players minutes in their exhibition match versus Beijing Normal University.

Arizona State finished the match with a 4-0 victory thanks to a strong start from the Sun Devils and their effective corner kicks.

Senior forward Jazmarie Mader scored two goals with the first one coming in the 12th minute as Mader chipped a shot from the top of the box over the Beijing Normal goalkeeper Cui Yuanyuan.

Natalie Stephens would score two minutes later after receiving a through ball from Mader and outmuscling the defender to finish it calmly past Yuanyuan.

The Sun Devils would head into halftime still holding a 2-0 lead and they would go on to match their goal production in the second half.

Sophomore Christina Edwards scored two and half minutes into the second half after heading in a goal off a corner kick over Yuanyuan.

Mader would score the fourth and final goal for the Sun Devils on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute to finish a successful day for the attack.

Goalkeeper Ashley March got the start for Arizona State as she split duties with goalkeeper Sydney Day.

Overall, they didn’t face much pressure as Beijing finished with only four shots for the match with March making two saves and Day making one save.

This match was really meant to give some of the players a chance to pushing for starting minutes and they performed well.
