The tempo drills, which showcased the first and second teams going against each other for a drive, drastically emphasized the running game.
Both the first and second teams started off with some trickery, employing a wide receiver sweep to Jalen Harvey and Ryan Newsome, respectively, but didn’t find much success.
The first-team offense, quarterbacked by Manny Wilkins, looked more like the Demario Richard show. The tailback ran the ball on the next four snaps to end the series. Not seeing much of a gain going up the middle, he hit the endzone on the last play as he took it outside.
The second-teamers mixed it up a bit more. Quarterback Blake Barnett shuffled for a gain on the second play of the drive, followed by a Kalen Ballage short-yardage gain and an incomplete pass intended for Terrell Chatman. The drill ended with another Ballage carry up the middle.
The 11-on-11 play tested the offense deep in their zone, pitting them near their own endzone, but both first-team units failed their test before the ball could even be snapped.
Manny Wilkins caught the defense offsides on a snap count to start the drill, but the offense gave it right back when that same snap count caught wide receiver Frank Darby on a false start.
The first-team drive never got going, giving carries to Ballage, Nick Ralston and Richard, consecutively, without much avail. The drive ended with the only completed pass of the day, a short out route to tight end Jay Jay Wilson.
During Barnett’s participation in 11-on-11, he threw just one pass, a tightly contested incomplete pass to Hodges.
The media portion of the practice ended with a two-point conversion try.

With Todd Graham shouting in the background, “game on the line, last play of the game, third OT,” the first-team offense went back to the wide receiver sweep, opting for Newsome to again get the carry. He went around and and dove for the pylon, successfully completing the conversion.
