The ASU volleyball team heads into the upcoming 2017 season with a new schedule, a new coach and new challenges.

The ASU volleyball team struggled to maintain consistency during matches last season resulting in multiple losses and close call games.

Arizona State was adjusting to the style of their newest head Coach, Stevie Mussie.

Just after one year with the Sun Devils, Mussie resigned.

Now the ASU women’s volleyball team is welcoming their newest head coach Sanja Tomasevic.

Having Tomasevic as the newest head coach will be a huge advantage to the ASU women’s volleyball team.

More from Devils in Detail

Tomasevic was a strong collegiate volleyball player who participated in four NCAA championships at the University of Washington.

She was inducted into the University of Washington’s Hall of Fame for her outstanding ability to make over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.

Tomasevic previously coached at the University of Miami where she helped the team progress over 20 plus wins in one season.

This is the type of coaching that the Sun Devils need.

One of the biggest issues ASU faced last season was inconsistency.

Coach Mussie constantly stated that each week the girls would practice communicating on the court; however, during the games the inconsistency of communication would unfold.

With Tomasevic as the new head coach there is no doubt that she will be able to make this team consistent.

As an experienced player, Tomasevic understands how important communication is and how drastically it can make or break a match.

The Sun Devils do not have an easy season ahead of them.

Their schedule includes games against the Arizona, Washington, and USC.

Even though ASU struggled last year against these teams, Tomasevic understands the mentality of collegiate level athletes.

ASU struggled tremendously last year against Washington.

As a former Husky, Tomasevic will be able to prepare these girls for the challenges against Washington.

It’s never easy to adjust to a new coach.
