On Day 3 of our positional breakdown, the ASU football pass catchers are the group of focus led by sophomore wide out N’Keal Harry.

ASU football’s injuries at quarterback have been well documented over the last year, and while the production at wide receiver and tight end might have suffered a little bit, the Sun Devils saw the breakout of wide receiver N’Keal Harry.

Harry finished last season as Arizona State’s second-leading receiver with 58 receptions, 659 yards and five touchdowns.

A surprise omission to the Biletnikoff Award watch list, Harry will be the go-to receiver for ASU with a lot of key pass catchers graduated or transferred in Tim White, Fred Gammage, Cameron Smith and Kody Kohl.

More from Devils in Detail

With running back Kalen Ballage as the team’s third-best receiver, Arizona State would like to get more production from its wide outs and tight ends.

Behind Harry on the depth chart is redshirt junior Jalen Harvey, who finished with 21 catches and 330 receiving yards last season, and redshirt sophomore John Humphrey, who had a solid Spring Game in April.

With the transfers of experienced wide receivers Ellis Jefferson and Fred Gammage, wide receiver group is very young as group consists of mostly freshmen and sophomore.

A player to watch is Ryan Newsome, who also had a strong Spring Game.

Tight end is another position going through transition after the graduation of Kohl.

Jay Jay Wilson, who played in nine games tallying four receptions, 81 yards and three touchdowns, will be the likely starter with a lot of inexperienced players behind him on the depth chart.

Even with Arizona State ranking as the sixth-best offense in the Pac-12 last season, the production of the pass catchers will certainly go up no matter who’s the quarterback as long as there is stability at the position.
