Despite pressure from the outside, ASU football head coach Todd Graham continues his successful recruiting this week earning three commits.

ASU football has struggled the last two seasons on the field but it hasn’t been for a lack of talent.

Head coach Todd Graham earned three commits from the 2018 recruiting class in two four-star commits, linebacker Reggie Hughes and running back Demetrious Flowers, and one three-star commit in linebacker Christian LaValle.

What’s notworthy about these three recruits is that all three are from California, where it seems Graham has zeroed in a bulk of his recruiting focus after many seasons wanting to get top recruits from Texas.

More from Devils in Detail

The 2018 recruiting class now consists of four players from California and two from Texas.

Hughes, according to Scout, is ranked as the No. 22 linebacker in the nation with Flowers listed as the No. 23 running back.

Graham’s solid track record of recruiting is what has made the recent struggles so perplexing.

The Sun Devils have a lot of talented, skillful players but as a unit, the team has struggled against the best teams in the Pac-12.

Arizona State is hoping they can restore their winning ways as the Sun Devils enter this season with a new offensive and defensive coordinators.

Maybe new voices can help reverse the recent misfortune and make Arizona State competitive in the Pac-12 as USC strengthens into a national championship contender to go along with the usual suspects in UCLA, Oregon and Stanford.

With the recent departures in the secondary, a lot of young players will step into big roles such as freshman Alex Perry.

While these players are talented, they are young and it will take patience for them to grow into their roles.
