ASU Baseball: Devils Shutout, Spoil Erives’ Final Start

ASU baseball opened their final series of the season Friday at Utah as Eder Erives pitched seven solid innings in his final collegiate start in a 2-0 loss.
ASU baseball starter Eder Erives was looking to pitch his very best in his final collegiate start Friday at Utah.
The Sun Devils head to Salt Lake City looking to turn things around after being swept by Arizona in what was a highly competitive series.
Unfortunately for Arizona State, the bats stayed quiet in what has become a common theme when the Devils hit the road.
The Utes got a run in the first and second innings and that was enough for Utah starter Jayson Rose to nail down a 2-0 victory in the series opener.

In the first inning, Utah scored the opening run on an RBI sac fly by third baseman Dallas Carroll scoring center fielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr., who reached on a fielding error by shortstop Andrew Snow.
Utah scored their second running in the next inning on a solo home run from catcher Zack Moeller.
That was all she wrote as the Sun Devils were able to put together just three hits with ASU getting two hits in the fourth inning and one in the ninth inning.
Arizona State posed their biggest threat in the fourth after catcher Lyle Lin singled and right fielder Hunter Bishop doubled with one out.
The Sun Devils were unable to bring either runner home as designated hitter Zach Cerbo struck out and third baseman Jeremy McCuin fouled out.
With a lack of run support, Erives picked up his fifth loss of the season pitching seven solid inning allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, two walks and six strikeouts.
Relievers Grant Schneider and Tanner West combined to throw a scoreless eighth inning giving the Sun Devils a chance in the ninth inning.
Rose was better for the Utes pitching 8+ shutout innings on three walks, four hits and six strikeouts winning his eighth game of the season.
Closer Dylan Drachler relieved Rose after a lead-off double by Lin.
Drachler threw a 1-2-3 inning striking out one Sun Devil batter for his fifth save of the season.
