ASU Softball: Four Home Runs Power Devils to Victory

ASU softball kept their momentum going Saturday blasting four home runs versus California resulting in a 10-0 five-inning victory.
ASU softball were looking to take advantage of a weak Cal pitching staff by using the long ball to their advantage.
After hitting three home runs in Friday’s series opener, Arizona State hit four home runs leading to a 10-0 win.
Leading 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, shortstop Chelsea Gonzales and catcher Sashel Palacios hit back-to-back home runs off of Golden Bears pitcher Katie Sutherland-Finch.
Sutherland-Finch finished throwing 1.2 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts.
The Sun Devils would put the game away in the fifth inning versus Cal pitcher Kourtney Shaw.

Pinch hitter Randi Farricker hit a solo home run off Shaw and then five batters later, designated player Fa Leilua hit a walk-off 3-run home run to seal the win.
Shaw finished throwing only one inning allowing 4 earned runs on 2 hits and 4 walks.
Arizona State finished the game with 10 runs on 8 hits off three Golden Bears pitchers.
In the pitching circle for Arizona State was Dale Ryndak, who was superb throwing a five-inning complete game shutout allowing only 2 hits on 55 pitches.
Starting for Cal was pitcher Stephanie Trzcinski and lasted only 2 innings allowing 4 earned runs on 2 hits with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts.
Arizona State took the lead in the first inning off Trzcinski as Gonzales hit an RBI double and Palacios scoring McCarty on a fielder’s choice.
The Sun Devils tacked on two in the third on a 2-run single by Leilua, who finished the game with 5 RBIs.

With the win, Arizona State improved to 30-16 and 9-11 in Pac-12 play and will look to complete a three-game sweep of the Golden Bears Sunday with first pitch at 3 p.m. PST on Pac-12 Network.
