After losing the first game of their three game series with the Oregon Ducks, ASU baseball came out on top in game two thanks to an exciting play at the plate to preserve a 4-3 victory.

With a save opportunity at hand, senior Sam Ferri walked Kenyon Yovan to load the bases for the Ducks. A wild pitch would then give the runner on third the opening he needed to sprint home, the only thing standing in the way of a tied game was Zach Cerbo.

Cerbo would corral the ball and dive towards home plate, his glove outstretched toward the base runner. The runner would dive toward home plate only to dive face-first into Cerbo’s glove, ending the game. A dramatic win is only fitting for the Sun Devils, a team that has had a dramatic up and down season through this point.

Eli Lingos was given the start for game two, and he continued to be the Sun Devils most consistent pitcher. In 6 and 2/3 innings pitched, Lingos gave up eight hits and two runs while striking out four and walking three. Another quality start from the ace in the pitching staff.

On the offensive side of things, Taylor Lane was the big bat for Arizona State. He went two for four on the night and had two solo home runs. Andrew Shaps and Gage Canning helped on offense as well, driving in two runs collectively.

After a game one loss, the Sun Devils will be looking to take the series in game three. A fairly low-scoring series thus far, ASU will look for the bats to come alive on Sunday. The starting pitcher is still up in the air as head coach Tracy Smith still has a fluid rotation from week to week.

Game three is slated to begin at noon MST and the game can be seen live through the University of Oregon’s live stream.
