ASU Football: Stadium Upgrades will Add to Fan Experience
ASU football‘s stadium, Sun Devil Stadium, is currently undergoing renovations.
A video board, renovations to the student athlete center, upgraded locker rooms, and a re-done west side of the stadium is what ASU football is adding this off-season.
Ray Anderson, Athletic Director for Arizona State, said that the goal of the renovations was to make Sun Devil Stadium, “Iconic,” and “One of the best collegiate venues for multiple events when [the renovations] are done in 2018.”
Anderson also noted that upgrading the student athlete center and the locker rooms at Sun Devil Stadium will help with recruiting, something that any successful football program needs to be good at.

The biggest addition to Sun Devil Stadium is a brand new video board. An addition that required a section of seats in the upper bowl to be knocked out. Expected to be ready for the 2017 football season, the video board is going to be one of the largest in the country. It will also be larger than University of Arizona’s video board, something that ASU football fans always like to hear.
When all the renovations are done, Sun Devil Stadium will be an iconic part of Arizona State. With Sun Devil Stadium and Wells Fargo Arena being looked at as two of the older Pac-12 venues in recent years, Arizona State needed to renovate the football stadium to stay on the same footing as other Pac-12 schools.
A big reason for the renovations is the hope that it will attract more high-caliber recruits. When being recruited by schools, players take into account how nice the amenities are at the stadium they will be playing at. With money being put towards upgraded locker rooms and a nicer student athlete center, recruits won’t be able to scoff at Sun Devil Stadium.

While renovations are great, and a nicer experience might be able to draw a few more fans than in the past, it all comes down to the on-field performance. With four months remaining until football season, fans are becoming anxious to see if the stadium is a nice complement to an even nicer on-field product.
