ASU Basketball: Devils Add Two Transfers to Men’s Team
By Sam Ficarro
ASU basketball added two transfers to its men’s basketball team as Arizona State seeks to take a major step forward under head coach Bobby Hurley.
ASU basketball struggled in head coach Bobby Hurley’s second season in large part due to the lack of depth on the Sun Devils.
Arizona State’s depth got a big boost this week with the addition of two transfers in guard Rob Edwards and forward Zylan Cheatham.

Both transfers will sit the upcoming season before suiting up for Arizona State in the 2018-19 season when both will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Edwards transfers from Cleveland State after averaging 16.5 points per game (sixth in the Horizon League) and 4.5 rebounds per game leading to a selection on the All-Horizon League second team.
The former Vikings guard shot 41.3 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from 3-point range. To go along with those numbers, he finished tied for fifth in the conference in steals (1.4) and tied for 11th with 2.0 3-pointers per game.
In the press release, Hurley said, “He (Edwards) is a gifted scorer that plays with toughness and physicality from the guard position and will be a key contributor the moment he become eligible.”
Edwards wasn’t the only addition this week for the Sun Devils as Cheatham transferred from San Diego State.
Cheatham is a local product attending Phoenix South Mountain High School who averaged 9.1 points per game and 6.3 rebounds for the Aztecs last season.
The former Aztecs forward will be a welcomed addition as Arizona State has little depth in the frontcourt finishing as the worst rebounding team in the Pac-12.
