The ASU softball team is returning home this weekend looking to have a strong series against No. 10 Utah.

Last weekend, ASU softball got the series sweep over the Stanford Cardinal and they will look to carry that momentum into this weekend’s series. For Utah, last weekend was almost perfection as they took two of three from the University of Arizona, the No. 3 team in the nation.

Arizona State will be trying to replicate the success Utah had against a tough opponent in Arizona against Utah. With a three game series taking two of three would be a wild success for the Sun Devils.

In order to win, they will need to not rely on hitting or pitching, but the team playing like a team. Last weekend fans saw a little taste of just how good ASU can be if the team plays together, hitting complimented pitching and vice versa. The only issue is that Stanford is the worst team in the Pac-12 while Utah is second-best only behind the Wildcats.

Another issue Arizona State has had to deal with all season is their inability to beat a top-25 team. The Sun Devils still haven’t beaten a top-25 opponent despite having 10 opportunities to pick up a victory. Getting over that hurdle will be a major thing for ASU if they want to stand a chance against not only Utah, but the Pac-12 and postseason field in general.

With the time winding down until the postseason, it is now or never for ASU softball. While a series loss wouldn’t devastate the team’s season, a series sweep would make it very difficult to gain any momentum in the home-stretch of the season.

First pitch of Arizona State’s series against the Utah Utes is scheduled for Friday at 7:00 p.m. MST and Breanna Macha is expected to get the start. The game can be seen live on the Arizona State Live Stream.
