After a 13-12 loss against UNLV in a mid-week tilt, ASU baseball is back in action as they host the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners.

After a heartbreaking defeat on Tuesday, the ASU baseball team will be looking to take our their frustration on the Roadrunners.

After looking like they were starting to figure it out as a team, the Sun Devils lost a four-game winning streak on Tuesday and with it possibly their last chance at getting into the postseason. Now the baseball team will need to win most, if not all, of their series in order to have a chance at the postseason.

A good way to begin would be to sweep Cal State Bakersfield, a team that currently is 19-13, but 5-7 on the road. A break from a Pac-12 series may be just what ASU needs.

More from Devils in Detail

After the Roadrunners, Arizona State will have five series against Pac-12 series, all of which will be crucial. Making sure that the win the gimme games, like the three this weekend against Cal State Bakersfield is important.

Like the softball team, the baseball team lives by the motto one game at a time. While it is unusual not to have your pitching rotation worked out for a whole week or series, the Sun Devils have had to deal with each starter having their ups and downs throughout the season and being consistent has been a problem all season.

It is assumed that Eli Lingos will be given the nod for tonight’s game, but after that it is a total question that won’t be answered until the day of the game.

No matter who is pitching, the bats need to show up. Lately that hasn’t been a problem for the Sun Devils as they accumulated 12 runs on Tuesday and a total of 21 in the series sweep against the Washington State Cougars. If the bats show up this weekend, then it is very possible that the Sun Devils can get back on track with at least a series win and possibly a series sweep.
