While the first two games were run-rule victories for ASU softball, Saturday’s game was a more competitive 7-4 win that took until the ninth inning to decide.

Dale Ryndak was given the start for the third game of the series, and she put up a solid outing despite her final line not reflecting it. In six innings, Ryndak gave up four runs on three hits and she struck out three along with walking three.

While giving up four runs is never a great stat, this has been Ryndak’s worse game of the season and she is backed by an offense that knows how to put runs on the board.

Arizona State’s offense was able to continue their great run-producing that they had shown in the first two games of the series. It was only a three-run home run by Stanford in the bottom of the seventh that prevented the Sun Devils from heading home with another easy victory.

More from Devils in Detail

With the game tied 4-4 after the normal seven innings of play, it was time for ASU’s big-hitters to step up. Chelsea Gonzales did just that as she blasted a three-run home run in the top of the ninth to put the game out of reach for Stanford.

Coming off an off-week, Arizona State really needed a series sweep against Stanford to start off their second half of the season. With the sweep now complete, they can focus on the No. 14 Utah Utes who will be in Tempe next weekend.

A good series against the Utes can make ASU one of the most dangerous teams in the Pac-12 moving forward.

The Sun Devils achieved what they needed to this weekend as they swept the Stanford Cardinal, now it is time to turn their attention to the loaded second-half of their schedule where they will be facing some of the top team in not only the Pac-12, but in the country. It should make for an exciting finish for a softball team that wasn’t expected to do much with a brand new head coach.
