The ASU softball team is off this weekend, and riding a four game losing streak, it is for the best.

The ASU softball team is the best thing to happen to ASU in some time. They have the opportunity to do something special come the postseason, and they actually have the lineup and pitching to do so.

The issue so far for the Sun Devils has been competing with some of the top competition in the country.

ASU hasn’t beaten a top-25 team so far this season. They have had, and will have, plenty of opportunities as the Pac-12 is home to four top-10 teams. If ASU can figure out that struggle then they could be one of the best teams in the country.

This off-weekend is a good opportunity for head coach Trisha Ford to get her team together for some mental preparation as they are about to enter a critical stretch in the season. They have five series left before the postseason, and two of those series are against current top-10 teams.

Another area that coach Ford needs to address is the Sun Devils’ difficulty on the road. Arizona State is currently 0-6 on the road compared to 17-2 at home and 6-4 at neutral sites.

If ASU can improve their road record, which they will have to do to make some noise in the Pac-12, then the sky is the limit for this team.

This weekend will serve as a good time for the pitchers to take a well-deserved rest and make sure that they are prepared for the task ahead. While they will still throw some over the weekend, not having to deal with the stress of facing another team will do nothing but good for the pitching staff.

The softball team is getting prepared for the remainder of their season, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. A nice break at the mid-way point gives your team a chance to regroup and get their mindsets on the same page.

A few adjustments made this weekend could result in a huge postseason for Arizona State, something that fans would welcome after the baseball team has looked like they aren’t going to be doing anything in June.
