The ASU baseball team was unable to shake off their bad loss to UCLA on Sunday as they followed it up with an 11-2 loss in Tucson on Tuesday night.

Things aren’t going well for ASU baseball right now. After looking like they may have found their step against UNLV on Barry Bonds night, the Sun Devils have looked like they have regressed since.

They lost two of three against UCLA and they just loss against their in-state rivals, the University of Arizona.

Jake Godfrey was called upon to start for the Sun Devils. In his four innings of work, Godfrey gave up five hits and six runs while walking four and striking out four. The pitching staff for Arizona State has struggled mightily this season and Tuesday’s game was no different. By the end of the night ASU went through five pitchers who had a combined 11 hits.

In the batters box, the Sun Devils had trouble putting runs on the board. The issue wasn’t that they were going against a shut-down pitcher, in total Arizona used four pitchers, the problem was that the bats just weren’t making contact.

The star for ASU was Gage Canning as he earned himself three hits. The issue was that no one seemed to be able to drive Canning home as he was left on base all three times. Jackson Willeford had a solo home run in the eighth but the Sun Devils were unable to follow it up with a rally.

Arizona State will be back in action this upcoming weekend as they travel to Berkeley, California to take on the Golden Bears. Cal has the same record as the Sun Devils (12-14) so this will be a good opportunity for ASU to possibly earn their first Pac-12 series win of the season. First pitch of game one is scheduled for Friday at 7:00 p.m. PST. The game can be seen live on Pac-12 Arizona or on Pac-12 Bay Area.
