With the chance to pick up their first Pac-12 series win of the season, ASU baseball was unable to rise to the challenge in a 17-4 blowout loss.

The problem of not having a consistent third-day starter reared its ugly head again on Sunday as Reagan Todd was given the nod.

In his 1 and 1/3 innings of work Todd gave up four hits and five earned runs. He was unable to get comfortable from the get-go as he went through 12 batters during his small time on the mound.

After Todd was pulled, the ball was handed to Ryan Hingst. Hingst didn’t have much more luck as he only lasted 1 and 2/3 innings before being relieved of his duties. In his time on the mound, Hingst allowed three runs off of three hits. In total, the Sun Devils went through six pitchers before it was all said and done.

On the offensive side, the Sun Devils had an average day that was overshadowed by UCLA’s once-in-a-lifetime day.

Lyle Lin continued to prove that he is a reliable offensive weapon. He went 2-4 on the day and was the third ASU runner of the day to cross home plate.

Andrew Shaps and Zach Cerbo both showed off their power as they each belted a home run over the wall. If Arizona State can continue to get power from Shaps and Cerbo then they might be able to turn the season around.

For UCLA, they had a great game from their starting pitcher, Jon Olsen. In his 6 and 2/3 innings of work he only allowed three hits and two runs. It helps when you are backed by an offense that is seeing the ball as well as the Bruins were today, but Olsen still would have given his team a good chance to win if they hadn’t scored as many as they had.

The Sun Devils will be back in action Tuesday as they travel to Tucson to take on the University of Arizona in a quick weekday game. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PST and it can be seen live on the University of Arizona Live Stream.
